This is my first communication as candidate for the position of Vice President of the Canadian Institute of Planners. I have come to the decision to seek this office with much thought and now with great excitement.
I have been a practicing planner for more than 30 years. During that time I have had the good fortune to have had a career filled with exciting opportunities in a wide array of projects here in Canada and abroad.
I have also had the good fortune of visiting many universities, meeting faculty and students alike, and understanding the varying perspectives of planning education in different parts of the country.
A key challenge facing the profession is to carefully manage the many complex issues arising from CIP’s Planning for the Future. The elements of this initiative will be vigorously discussed over the next few months.
I look forward to the opportunity to work as Vice President of CIP to play a part managing the transition and implementing the changes. I believe my experience and the insights I have gained in my years of practice, can be helpful in ensuring that new initiatives are positive for all of us.
This is the first in a series of communications I propose to post throughout the campaign period to present my thoughts and invite your responses. I look forward to the discussion
About Me
- Andrea Gabor FCIP RPP
- Dear Fellow Urbanist, I am pleased to present myself as a candidate for Vice President of the Canadian Institute of Planners. I am a graduate of McGill University’s Master of Urban Planning Program and have been a practicing planner for over 30 years. I have worked in the public and private sectors, initially in Montreal, then in Toronto. I have been a partner at Urban Strategies Inc. for the last 20 years.I have supplemented my work responsibilities with numerous volunteer activities, including: OPPI District Management and Policy Committees; Toronto Board of Trade Planning and Development Committee; Faculty Advisory Board for McGill’s School of Planning, amongst others. The insight and experience I have gained will, I believe, allow me to respond successfully to the challenges of the position of Vice President of the CIP.
